Mozart Requiem -- The Requiem Mass

I. Requiem

Chorus
Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine!
et lux perpetua luceat eis!
Soprano
Te decet hymnus, Deus in Sion,
et tibi reddetur votum in Jerusalem.
Chorus
Exaudi orationem meam!
ad te omnis caro veniet.
Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine!
et lux perpetua luceat eis.

Kyrie eleison!
Christe eleison!
Kyrie eleison!

Rest eternal grant to them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them

To Thee is due a song of praise, O God, in Zion,
and to Thee a vow shall be paid in Jerusalem;

Hear my prayer;
to Thee all flesh shall come.
Rest eternal grant to them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.

Lord have mercy on us.
Christ have mercy on us.
Lord have mercy on us
II. Dies irae

Chorus
Dies irae dies illa solvet
saeclum in favilla,
teste David cum Sybilla.
Quantus tremor est futurus,
quando judexest venturus,
cuncta stricte discussurus.

The day of wrath, that day of grief shall dissolve
the world into glowing ash,
as David and the Sibyl tell.
How great a quaking shall there be,
when on that day the judge shall come,
to render all thoroughly..
III. Tuba mirum

Bass
Tuba mirum spargens sonum,
per sepulchra regionum,
coget omnes ante thronum.
Tenor
Mors stupebit et natura, cum resurget
creatura, judicanti responsura.

Liber scriptus proferetur, in quo totum
continetur, unde mundus judicetur.

Alto
Judex ergo cum sedebit,
quidquid latet apparebit,
nil inultum remanebit.
Soprano
Quid sum miser tunc dicturus?
Quem patronum rogaturus,
cum vix justus sit securus?

The trumpet, spreading a wondrous sound
through the regions of the dead,
shall bring all before the throne.

Then death and nature dazed shall be when from
their graves all men shall rise, to answer to
their judge's charge.
The Book of Life shall opened be, in
which each smallest act is found, on which
the world shall face its judge.

When then the judge shall take his place,
whatsoever lies hid shall come to light,
no act unpunished shall remain.

What then shall I, poor wretch, reply,
upon what patron shall I call,
when scarce the just man stands secure?
IV. Rex tremendae

Chorus
Rex tremendae majestatis,
qui salvandos salvas gratis,
salva me, fons pietatis.

O King of fearful majesty,
who all that need Thee savest free,
save me, O fount of mercy.
V. Recordare

Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass
Recordare Jesu pie,
quod sum causa tua viae,
ne me perdas ilia die.
Quaerens me sedisti lassus, redemisi
crucem passus;
tantus labor non si cassus.
Juste judex ultionis,
donum fac remissionis
ante them rationis.
Ingemisco tanquam reus,
culpa rube vultus meus;
supplicanti parce, Deus.
Qui Mariam absolvisti,
et latronem ex audisti,
mihi quoque spent dedisti.
Preces meae non sunt dignae,
sed tu bonus, fac benigne,
ne perenni disti. cremer igne.
Inter oves locum praesta,
et ab hoedis me sequestra,
statuens in parte dextra.

Remember, merciful Jesus,
that I am the cause of your journey,
lest thou lose me in that day.
Seeking me didst thou sit weary:
thou didst redeem me, suffering the cross.
let not such labor be frustrated.
O just Judge of vengeance,
give the gift of remission
before the day of reckoning.
I groan as one guilty;
my face blushes at my sin.
Spare me, thy supplicant, 0 God.
Thou who didst absolve Mary,
and didst hear the thief's prayer,
hast given hope to me also.
My prayers are not worthy,
but do thou, good Lord, show mercy,
lest I burn in everlasting fire.
Give me place among thy sheep
and put me apart from the goats,
setting me on the right hand.
VI. Confutatis

Chorus
Confutatis maledictus,
flammis acribus addictus,
voca me cum benedictis.
Oro supplex et acclinis,
cor contritunt quasi cinis,
gere curarn mei finis.

When sentence on the damned is passed,
and all to piercing flames are sent,
amongst the blessed call my name.
Abased and deeply bowed I pray, my
heart full crushed as though 'twere ash,
make Thine my destiny's concern.
VII. Lacrymosa

Chorus
Lacrymosa dies ilia,
qua resurget ex favilla
judicandus homo reus.
Huic ergo parce Deus,
pie Jesu Domine
dona eis requiem. Amen.

A day of tears is that dread day,
on which shall rise from ashen dust,
to judge true each guilty man.
Then spare this soul, O God,
O merciful Lord Jesus,
grant them rest. Amen.
VIII. Domine Jesu

Chorus
Domine Jesu Christe! Rex gloriae!
Libera animas omnium fideliurn defunctorurn
de poenis inferni et de profundo lacu
Libera eas de ore leonis, ne absorbeat cas
Tartarus, ne cadant in obscurum:

Chorus with Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass
sed signifer sanctus Michael repraesentet eas
in lucem sanctam, quam olim Abrahae
promisisti, et semini ejus.

O Lord Jesus Christ! O King of glory!
Deliver the souls of all the faithful departed
from the pains of hell and from the deep pit!
Deliver them from the lion's mouth,
that Tartarus not swallow them up, that they
fall not into darkness:

but may Thy standard-bearer holy Michael speedily
bring them into the holy light, which of old Abraham
Thou promised, and to his seed.
IX. Hostias

Chorus
Hostias et preces tibi, Domine, laudis
offerimus. Tu suscipe pro animabus illis,
quarum hodie memoriam faci mus:
fac eas, Domine, de morte tran transire
ad vitam, quam olim Abrahae promisisti,
et semini ejus.

Sacrifices and prayers of praise to Thee, O Lord,
we offer. Receive them for those souls,
whose memory on this day we keep;
grant them, O Lord to pass from death
to that life which of old you promised to Abraham
and to his seed.
X. Sanctus

Chorus
Sanctus, sanctus, sanctus Dominus
Deus Sabaoth!
pleni sunt coeli et terra gloriatua.
Hosanna in excelsis!

Holy, holy, holy
Lord God of Hosts:
Heaven and earth are filled with Thy glory.
Hosanna in the highest!
XI. Benedictus

Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass
Benedictus, qui venit in nomine Domini.
Chorus
Hosanna in excelsis!

Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest!
XII. Agnus Dei

Chorus with Soprano
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi,
dona eis requiem.
Agnus Dei, qui tollis peccata mundi,
dona eis requiem sempiternam.
Lux aeterna luceat eis, Domine,
cum sanctis tuis in aeternum, quia pius es.
Requiem aeternam dona eis, Domine,
et lux perpetua luceat eis.

Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world,
grant them rest.
Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world,
grant them rest always.
Let perpetual light shine upon them, O Lord,
with Thy saints forever, because Thou art forgiving.
Rest eternal grant to them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
